About the orc mythos: In Lord of the rings, Tolkien use orc to describe the monster who is so popular fantasy today. Their name have been inspired by the latin god of the underworld Orcus. But originaly it’s the roman writer Pliny who used the word to describe a huge, human eater, sea monster. Also, creatures by the name of “orcneas”, are present in the celebre Beowulf poem.

Drawing tips on the orcs:

Their proportions can be compared to those of a massive human. Some versions of them are a little shorter. Draw them with :
- 3 times the width of the head.
- 6 to 8 times the hight of the head.
Give them a large neck, powerfull muscles, and you can also exagerate a bit their arms length.

How to draw an orc in 3 steps:

Step 1: You first draw a quick pale sketch of all the general forms and shapes of your warrior orc with accurate proportions. Don’t go into details, this sketch will be used as a guidelines for the rest of your drawing.

Step 2: Secondly, you begin to draw the head, body, muscles and anatomy on top of the forms and shapes you’ve drawn on your forms sketch.

Step3 : Now, you finish your orc. Put details in his weapon and armor. Chose the right lines and forms you want to keep. Try to personalyse your own drawing. Put ink on it, and erase the pencil sketch you’ve used as guidelines.
