Learn how to draw fantasy elves

A short elf mythos:
The elves originate from the Scandinavian mythology. Named Alfr in Old norse, they where split in 2 cathegorys. First the white elves who were the gentle ones, and the black elves who lived underground and were evil. They also apear in differents folklores. Praticly always related with nature in somes ways. Tolkien with Lord of the rings had an enormous influence on what is the version of today fantasy elves.

Drawing tips on elves:
Their proportions are close to those of a human. However they are not as big. 3 times the width of the head. Less for women. 6 to 8 times the hight of the head. The challenge here is to give them a small but athletic shape. Again experiment and find your way. As for their face draw them with a finer chin and a longer nose. For the women exagerate their eyelash. That will give them a more faeric look.

HOW TO DRAW ELF CARACTERES

Step by step fantasy drawing tutorials

Step 1:First, do a quick sketch of the general forms of your elf with accurate proportions. Don’t go into details, this will be used as a guidelines for the rest of your drawing.

Step 2: Then, you begin to draw your elf face and anatomy on top of the forms and shapes you’ve drawn on step one.

Step3 : Now, you finish your elf drawing. Draw the costumes armour, mages robe or other. Put the details. Chose the right lines and forms you want to keep. Personalyse your own drawing.

Last step: Ink your elf drawing and erase the pencilled guidelines from the Step 1 and 2 sketch.
